This is what brings shame to Africa’ Touré says as he reacts angrily to not being African footballer of the year.

No smiles as Yaya Toure awaits the announcement  yesterday

Yaya Touré has reportedly reacted very badly for not being named African footballer of the year for a record fifth time, describing the decision as one which “brings shame” to the continent.

Touré  went further to describe Aubameyang as “a brilliant  player” but the Manchester City midfielder did not take coming second to the 26-year-old lightly. Saying he deserved to win because he helped Ivory Coast win the Africa Cup of Nations in 2015.

Touré, who was won the African footballer of the year award in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014, said and I quote: “I’m very, very disappointed. It’s sad to see Africa react this way, that they don’t think African achievements are important.
“I think this is what brings shame to Africa, because to act in that way is indecent. But what can we do about it? Us Africans, we don’t show that Africa is important in our eyes. We favour more what’s abroad than our own continent. That is pathetic.
“As I’ve been told many times, you can’t take care of Africa too much because Africa will be the first to let you down.”
Maybe he was reacting to the shouts coming from the crowd at the award centre when the host Robert Marawa and Juilet Ibrahim asked who was the favorite. With the crowd all shouting "Aubameyang"
