A 29-year-old man tried to sell his own four-month-old son in streets in southwest China’s Chengdu was arrested on Wednesday. The man and his wife were spotted wandering around streets in the city on Monday afternoon, holding a baby in hand, asking passers-by if they want to “adopt” the baby.
Being refused all the way through, the couple did not seem to give up. The man was heard speaking to a phone call, saying “if you want to take the baby away, you need to pay 18000RMB (2,736 USD) up”. When the couple appeared in streets again with the baby in hands on Wednesday, local residents reported to the police that a man and a woman were selling a baby in street.
The man said he still wants a girl after their life gets better, since girls are “obedient and less burdensome”. When asked if his parents knew this, he said: “I’m afraid that they would pass out hearing this…I was going to tell them bit by bit when I get home.”
