Africa's Tallest Statue Unveiled in Imo State (Photos)



A 43-year-old boss of an oil and gas distribution company Obinna Onuoha has built the largest statue of Jesus Christ in Africa called "Jesus De Greatest" statue 

The  nine-metre tall statue of Jesus Christ carved from white marble statue was unveiled on Friday and Stands barefoot with arms outstretched. It has a massive weight of 40 tonnes.  









More than 100 priests and Catholic worshipers attended the statue's official unveiling in the village of Abajah in Imo State,Nigeria.


The statue was was built by a Chinese company and in St. Aloysius Catholic Church. A  2,000-capacity church that he (
Obinna Onuoha) built in 2012.






Before unveiling the statue, presiding bishop Augustine Tochukwu Okwuoma said it would be a "very great symbol of faith" for Catholic worshippers and passers-by alike.

"It will remind them of the importance of Jesus Christ," said Okwuoma.


The cost of the statue has not been revealed.
