Oshimen to sign a professional contract once he turns 18 |
Oshimen who is 16 years old was accompanied on the trip to Germany by the coach of Ultimate
Strikers, Chinedu Ogbenna, Shira Yussuf and his partner, Ariyo Igbayilola, his eldest brother Andrew Osimhen and 36 Lions CEO Liameed Olawale Gafar.
Manchester united, Manchester City,Arsenal and Sporting Lisbon all showed interest but it was only Wolfsburg that showed real concrete interest.
NFF Boss Amanju Pinnick recently revealed that Osimhen’s transfer to Wolfsburg had to be put on break because the football federation wanted to ensure that players from the Golden Eaglets are not exploited by agents and clubs as was the case before.
He said: "I got a call from Wolfsburg who had a lucrative offer for Osimhen and I asked what their plan was for the player (sic). There
must be a plan which they’ll have to defend. We won’t stop anybody from traveling but we’ll be religious about monitoring because we believe
the Federation should have a major role to play".
“We are going to tell the agent to stay off because no International Transfer Certificate will
be issued to any player until we know exactly where they are going to
and the plans they have.We are not just taking about winning but also
the impact on seamless transition. We’ll come up with a legislation
soon; within a week or two, that will make the players national assets.
What Wolfsburg is offering is huge and very tempting but we’ll turn them
down if their plans don’t suit ours.”
The financial details of the deal is not yet known but an insider who pleaded anonymity said is about one Million Euros.
