The briefing was done by the Accountant-General of the Federation, Alhaji Ahmed Idris to the National Economic Council (NEC). Alhaji Ahmed Idris stated that the balance of the money stolen by the late military dictator Gen. Sani Abacha stood at $26 million and 19 million pounds as at November 2015.
Benue state Governor, Mr Samuel Ortom made the briefing during the NEC meeting which was presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the State House on Thursday.
He said: "We were briefed on the Abacha loot recovery.
"The Accountant-General of the Federation reported that the dollar account as at November 2025 ending has a balance of $26 million, while the pound sterling has a balance of 19 million and 33 pounds."So that is where we are as at today".

In September 1994, he issued a decree that placed his government above the jurisdiction of the courts, effectively giving him absolute power. Another decree gave him the right to detain anyone for up to three months without trial.
In 2004, Abacha was listed as the fourth most corrupt leader in history. Interestingly, during a service marking the 10th year anniversary of the death of the dictator, several former Nigerian heads of state, including current President Buhari refuted claims that Abacha looted the country, claiming such accusations are "baseless.
In 1990, Abacha became the first Nigerian soldier to attain the rank of a full General without skipping a single rank.
