Unknown gunmen allegedly tried to assassinate an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Rivers state, Mr. Chikordi Dike.The attack was foiled by the Nigeria Police.
The incident claimed the life of one of the Police officer attached to Mr. Chikordi Dike.
There had been reports that armed men had allegedly attempted to kill Mr. Dike who was once a Caretaker Committee chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
The suspected assassins ambushed and unleashed attacks on their victims around Polo Club in GRA phase 2 and battled the single policeman attached to the APC chieftain.
The late officer known as Corporal Yakubu was shot-dead around 11pm, Tuesday December 24, after the criminals overpowered him as he tried to protect his boss (Mr. Chikordi Dike) from being killed.
