Chukwuebuka Okeke, a Lagos based 28-year-old trader, is now regretting why he had to take the extreme measure of killing his close friend and roommate, Nwabuiuke Ezeike, 39, to death during a disagreement over a N5,000 electricity bill, the Punch Newspaper reports.
It was gathered that the two men who were both traders on the Lagos Island, lived together on Tokosi Street, Orile-Iganmu area of the state and had been together for a long time till the devil came in between them on the fateful day.
They were also said to have contributed money for the rent of the single-room apartment and lived as brothers, coming from the same Ishida community, in the Anocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to a relative of the murdered Ezeike, Ben Eze, the deceased had paid the suspect some money as his contribution towards the bill but Okeke refused to remit the money and when Ezeike asked him about the money, an argument broke out between them leading to the deadly fight.
He said:
“Nwabuike's friend squandered the money. So, as the payment became overdue and when pressure was mounted on him to release the money, he passed on the aggression to the deceased and there was a fight. He was actually asleep when he attacked him.
People had separated them when he suddenly punched him in the head. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.”
The suspect was arrested by policemen attached to the Orile Police Division, before the case was transfered to the State Department of Criminal Investigation, while the corpse of the victim was deposited at the Lagos Mainland mortuary.
