PDP disowns Dasuki,Bafarawa and others

The National Vice Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have distanced themselves from former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, former Sokoto State Governor, Attahiru Bafarawa and other chieftains of the party who have been indicted in the $2.1 billion arms deal fraud.
The PDP Vice Chairmen also expressed their support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s war against corruption.
This was contained in a communique released by PDP Vice Chairman, South-South, Dr Cairo Ojougboh after a meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, December 29, 2015, according to The Nation.
It reads:
“The body notes with great concern the various allegations and charges against some PDP members that served in the previous government.”
“Even as these allegations and charges are yet to be proved, we call on the President to also investigate some of his serving ministers and associates that even more grievous allegations have been levelled against.”
“Furthermore, we reaffirm that mediocres will no longer be allowed to govern the affairs of the party. Power will now be returned to the people at the grassroots.”
“We make bold to say that those who are corrupt have left the party and those who left are indisputably mercenaries and soldiers of fortune. That in spite of having lost the presidential election, the PDP remains the largest party in Nigeria and Africa and we intend to keep it so.”
“That the vast majority of PDP members at the grassroots are innocent and not corrupt and accordingly, we frown at and reject the notion and tagging of the PDP as a corrupt party. That Nigerians will realise soon that the PDP remains the only viable choice for the unity and progress of Nigeria.”
“The body hereby commends our governors who are the leaders in the states and reiterate our call on them to remain resolute and steadfast.”
The PDP has also said that it will suspend any of its members who are convicted of corruption.
Dasuki is at the center of the massive money laundering investigation and is alleged to have supervised the looting of the funds which were meant for the procurement of arms for Nigeria's military.
He was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) on December 1, 2015 and handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) the day after.

Nnamdi Kanu lawyer contradicts himself. As evidence of kanu's apology letter surfaces.
Kanu's apology to Buhari

The handwritten statement dated October 23,contained remorseful apology from the 48-year-old pro-Biafran agitator to the president and Igbo elders for insulting statements he made from UK during his broadcast.
The statement was written during his detention in the DSS camp and carries the official letterhead of DSS.
Earlier he had made an oral apology which he stated as “Reference to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as a terrorist, evil, and Pedophile is regrettable and uncalled for and for that I unreservedly apologize and will be doing so in a private letter to the President,” Kanu wrote.
But recently Kanu's lawyer,(Vincent Obetta) denied report making the round that his client tendered an apology in a separate letter to Mr Buhari.
“Until I see that [letter] I cannot comment,” he added.

In his statement, Kanu also admitted to saying “uncomplimentary things” about former president Goodluck Jonathan and Igbo elders. Saying in  Africa we respect elders.
He described the IPOB as a group of people who wish to group themselves together“for the purpose of Evangelism or going out to the streets to distribute leaflets and preach the message of lawful existence of Biafra as stipulated in the UN Charter.”

Kanu stressed that there is no armed conflict agitating, adding that any reference to such is purely designed to stop the Nigerian Armed Forces ostensibly the police from coming out and killing innocent people.

“Nnamdi Kanu, Male Igbo Christian, aged 48 (i.e. born 1967, the year Biafra was announced), of Afaraukwu-Ibeku (Umuahia-North LG, Abia State), of dual Nigerian-British nationality, living in Pilkington Road, SE London, UK.
“I can confirm that I, Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra worldwide is a legally registered and duly recognized body at the United Nations pursuing the rights of a specific indigenous people, in this case Biafra, to seek self-determination according to the said charter the reason for the formation of the Indigenous People of Biafra is to avail those referring to themselves as Biafrans the opportunity made available as a result of the United Nations Declaration to seek the peaceful re-Birth of Biafra in line with international laws, lack of holistic development in the socio-economic landscape of Nigeria, lack of youth employment, corruption in high offices, and economic repression.
“Opportunities no longer existed for the majority of the people, and especially young graduates to find meaningful employment in the job market, general hardship, brutal repression of civil and human rights coupled with system that shuns inward investment contributed to the thinking behind the formation of IPOB.
“The People of Biafra all over the world have particular emphasis on those residing in the diaspora it is not advised that those in Nigeria contribute. No contribution is accepted from those in political office or from organizations only individuals belonging to those organizations may choose to contribute if they wish to the volunteer force. IPOB is a group of people who may wish to group themselves together for the purpose of Evangelism or going out to the streets to distribute leaflets and preach the message of lawful existence of Biafra as stipulated in the UN Charter. There is no armed conflict agitating and any reference to such is purely designed to stop the Nigerian Armed Forces ostensibly the police from coming out and killing innocent people.
“IPOB volunteers are modeled on exactly the same tenet as the world renowned Salvation Army Front. Its ambitions are army but it does not carry any weapons. The same thing applies to the volunteers of IPOB. There is no arms training involved. I am the Director of Radio Biafra and solely responsible for the output the (genre?) of Radio Biafra is strictly to capture attention and imagination and not designed to incite anyone to violence.
“For very many years the Nigerian state and Nigerians in general have continued to witness poor economic management, fraud, corruption, and mismanagement of every sector of the economy. Therefore, as Radio Biafra programs were designed to wake up the public from their slumber and address the issues of the time, which is youth unemployment, lack of infrastructural provisions, poor electricity, an absence of rural development, and conspicuous absence of respect for human rights.
“The area as envisaged as Biafra are predominantly South-East and South-South territories having cultural, linguistic, traditional, and commonality in value system. Reference to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as a terrorist, evil, and Paedophile is regrettable and uncalled for and for that I unreservedly apologize and will be doing so in a private letter to the President. Before PMP there was the administration of Goodluck Jonathan I also said some uncomplimentary things about him and Igbo elders as well, which I now recognize should have happened because it is un-African to be rude or insolent to elders. All I was trying to do is draw attention to the problems afflicting society and what society is doing about it.
“The areas intended for the Biafran being espoused by Indigenous People of Biafra are Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Anambra, Bayelsa Delta, Edo (but only Igbamke), Kogi (only Igala), and Imo States. The mission statement of Radio Biafra is dedicated to the defences of the rights of the indigenous people of Biafra and ultimately the restoration of the Republic of Biafra in line with United Nations Declarations on the Rights of Indigenous People

We are still tracking Chibok Girls

We are still tracking Chibok Girls

The Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed recently stated that the Federal Government was still tracking the missing Chibok girls.
The minister revealed this on a Channels TV programme, Sunrise, through a phone interview, he said the military was carefully combing the Sambisa Forest in order to locate the missing girls.

We are a bit constrained. I know that some countries have set fire around the Sambisa forest to smoke out the Boko Haram insurgents, but we are being careful because we are still looking for the Chibok girls and we do not want unnecessary collateral casualties.
I know that many of our neighbours like Mali and Niger have employed certain procedures. Because of our major objective that we are still looking for the Chibok girls, so in some parts of Sambisa forest, we cannot adopt such drastic approaches.”
Lai Mohammed enjoined Nigerians to encourage the military and provide information to further dissipate the insurgents.
People must own the war. They must report suspicious movements and complement efforts of the military. How many bars or football viewing centres in Lagos can you secure? No, but if you have enough information to beef up security, it would help,” he added.
That is absolutely incorrect. It is possible for insurgents to lay ambush on the road. It doesn’t mean that they are in control of those local governments. I travelled 89 kilometres from Maiduguri to Bama.
We are not saying we are going to route or eliminate ambush or attacks overnight; it’s never done in any insurgency. But what we are just giving the fact, less than a year ago, the entire Northeast was almost in their control, today they don’t have that kind of command.
It’s just about one local government that they have swayed at all,” the minister said.
In spite of speculations that the Chibok girls have been married off or recruited as suicide bombers, the minster insist that they are still being held by the Boko Haram sect.

Governor Rochas Okorocha presents 2016 appropriation Budget of 102.2 Billion Naira

Governor Rochas Okorocha presents 2016 appropriation Budget of 102.2 Billion Naira

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo on Tuesday presented the 2016 appropriation of N102.2 billion to the state assembly for scrutiny.
Tagged the Budget of Consolidation and Continuity, its breakdown shows that 43.1 per cent is for capital expenditure while 56.9 per cent is for recurrent expenditure.
Okorocha said that the budget was aimed at industrialising the state as well as creating jobs for the unemployed youths.
The governor explained that the state hoped to rake in N23.209 billion from the Federation Allocation, N17.458 billion to be generated from internally while N148 billion would come from excess crude account, among others.
He said the policy thrust of the budget was anchored on the completion of ongoing projects.
"Substantial provision will be channeled to the completion of ongoing projects while new ones of high priority will also receive attention in line with the state's medium term expenditure framework,’’ he said.
Okorocha said that the 2016 budget would sustain the gains of the free education from primary to tertiary levels.
He added that industrialisation, healthcare delivery, agricultural development and infrastructure would be given more attention.
He said that with the current harsh economic situation in the country coming from the drop in oil revenue, the state's revenue would drastically reduce.
"It is logical that revenue will also reduce drastically in 2016. This calls for stringent measures to effectively manage government expenditure to reduce the shock arising from the reduction in the Federation Account,’’ he said.
Okorocha, who reviewed the performance of the 2015 budget, said that the expected revenue of N122.31 billion was only realised to the tune of about 35 per cent.
"As at Sept. 30, the actual revenue realised was N32.96 billion representing 35.64 per cent proportionate performance,’’ he said.
Receiving the proposal, the Speaker of the assembly, Mr Acho Ihim, assured the governor that the legislators would look at the estimate thoroughly and give it due attention and prompt passage.

Making Drogba an ambassador is a waste of his talent - Hiddink

Making Drogba an ambassador is a waste of his talent - Hiddink
Guus Hiddink has reiterated his desire to lure Didier Drogba back to Chelsea, but wants him as a coach rather than a club ambassador.
Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink feels Didier Drogba would be wasted as an ambassador and wants the club legend on his coaching staff.
Drogba now plies his trade for Montreal Impact in MLS, but Hiddink - who replaced Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge until the end of the season earlier this month - is eager for the 37-year-old to return to west London.
Speaking at a media conference on Wednesday, Hiddink said: "A few days ago before the Sunderland game I said that those rare kind of former players with this status would be very good for any club to have.
"Especially him because he's a Chelsea legend, but for the moment we have to respect his contract with Montreal.
"It depends on the player himself, you need to give them time and opportunities to find out what the best is for them.
"It may be on the coaching staff or maybe as an ambassador, but that is too official and functional for me. They need to go into the squad and help players with their experience.
"I am not in favour of a big ambassador role - travelling round the world with a tie on. They must give their huge experience to help especially the young kids and helping older ones with problems in their career."
Drogba's contact with Montreal runs until December 2017.

Charge Dasuki for treason, Bring Back Our Girls group tells Federal Governent

Charge Dasuki for treason, Bring Back Our Girls group tells Federal Governent

The group, led by Oby Ezekwesili, a former minister of education met with with Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
The group  asked the Federal Government to make public details of the Fact-Finding Committee report on the mass abduction of the Chibok girls in April, 2014. But the group which noted that Nigeria has become a nation “where there is hardly any deterrence for wrong
behavior,” argued more forcefully for the need to ensure water tight case to punish those indicted for diversion and sharing of the monies meant to prosecute the war on terrorist group Boko Haram.
For one, the group said government should not consider the option of plea bargain in the trial of those indicted over what it tagged blood money as it is being rumoured in the media.
Rather, the group asked government to consider charging the accused with a more serious crime of treason or money laundering as stipulated under the Economic and
Financial Crimes, EFCC Act.
Sambo Dasuki was about two weeks ago arraigned on 16 count charges of stealing and criminal breach of trust in the diversion of N32 billion to principally fund activities of Nigeria’s former ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The NSA’s former director of finance and administration, Shuaibu Salisu  who was arraigned with him had detailed how billions were withdrawn from the office of the NSA for transfer to companies owned by various chieftains of PDP.
Also, Dasuki, Salisu and Kusa are also being tried in another FCT High Court on another 22-count criminal charge bordering on alleged diversion of public funds to the tune of about N13. 6billion. He was arraigned alongside former Minister of Finance, Bashir Yuguda, former
governor of Sokoto State,  Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, his son, Sagir Attahiru and  a company – Dahaltu Investment Limited.
“We suggest that all the companies Col. Dasuki, the ex NSA shared money through, for instance be investigated. If for example, their taxes are not up to date, they and their directors should be gone after. US, for example, mafia leaders are often nailed in for the tax
evasion when charges of their criminal activities can’t be proven.”
The group also called for the release of soldiers currently serving various jail terms over their refusal to fight Boko Haram based on the recent interview in which President Muhammadu Buhari admitted that the men mutinied because they were sent to the war from without arms and ammunition.
The Army recently commuted death sentence slammed on some of the convicted soldiers by its court martial to 10 years imprisonment.
But the group said that is not good enough. It is ironic that if those who misappropriate the funds leading our troops to commit the offences they are accused of are convicted under the present charges, they will get a maximum of seven years while our troops have been
given 10 years. It isn’t fair that our patriotic, gallant troops be made to spend even a day for refusing to commit suicide fighting with their bare hands and on empty stomachs.
The group also raised a lot of questions related to administration of justice in the country, especially the exploitation of the weaknesses of the system calling for removal of all impediments in the system.
In his response, Malami promised the group that there would be no comprise in the fight against corruption and that the federal government is not considering the option of plea bargain with suspects
“I cannot imagine someone being responsible for monumental deaths of our citizens and then going scot-free arising from plea bargain as a policy. It has never been the policy of the government to make compromises on terrorism and financial crimes. It will never be
tolerated by the office of the AGF,” said Malami who added that the abduction of the Chibok school girls was tormenting and psychologically traumatising for the nation.
“It is tragic for a nation to have a budget meant for arms procurement for the protection of lives and property of the citizens, and end up not having the arms but compromising the process of making adequate provisions for the protection of lives of its citizens.
“The government of President Muhammadu Buhari has demonstrated sufficient skill and commitment to the protection of lives and property within the shortest practicable time of coming into existence, it has recorded tremendous success including confronting Sambisa forest head-on with the hope of rescuing the Chibok girls.”
The Minister also revealed that government has already provided a strong team of public prosecutors to purse cases of corruption at the various courts of the country. He added that the President is committed to bringing to book all perpetrators of corrupt practices that heightened insurgency activities.

Wenger promises transfers, but Elneny not a done deal yet

Wenger promises transfers, but Elneny not a done deal yet

Arsene Wenger says Arsenal will be looking to add to their squad in January, but the signing of Basel midfielder Mohamed Elneny is not a done deal yet, according to the manager.
A number of reports have suggested the Egypt international has already undergone a medical with the Gunners and is set to complete his transfer in the coming days.
However, Wenger has denied claims the move is already a done deal.
"Elneny undergoing a medical? You know more than me," he told a news conference.
"We cannot announce any transfers at the moment. Nothing has been concluded.
"But I will be busy, that is for sure.
"I have already said before that we are a bit short in numbers."
Arsenal's most recent high-profile recruit was goalkeeper Petr Cech, captured from Chelsea in the off-season.
The Czech international has proved a valuable acquisition in the first half of 2015-16 and Wenger lavished yet more praise on the 33-year-old after he broke the Premier League clean sheet record in the win over AFC Bournemouth.
"I have already said many times that goalkeeper is maybe the most underrated position in football," Wenger said.
"When you look at Petr's record, he's absolutely fantastic.
"I must say I'm surprised how quickly he integrated into our team. He looks like he's always been here with us and he became important inside the team."
Arsenal are at home to Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday.
